Good-Bye, Jdog

Since the first time he told me I was wrong, he was one of my favorite commenters on SJ.  Over time, we became friends, and I grew to respect him immensely.  I even wrote an homage to him.  Joel Rosenberg, better known around these parts as Jdog, was a special guy.

Today, I received an email from his lovely and beloved wife, Felicia, who Jdog always referred to as SWMBO:

On Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2011, Joel had a respiratory depression that caused a heart attack, anoxic brain damage and major organ failure.  Despite the very best efforts of the paramedics and the team at Hennepin County Medical Center, Joel was pronounced brain dead at around 5:37 pm Thursday June 2nd,  In accordance with his wishes, he shared the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

He is survived by his daughters, Judith Eleanor and Rachel Hannah, and his wife, Felicia Herman.  Today, June 3rd would have been his 32nd wedding anniversary.

It’s not my way to wallow about such things.  So instead, I offer this image of how I will remember Jdog.

Rest in peace, Jdog.  TANSTAAFL

I am terribly sorry to hear about Joel’s passing. I only knew him through the internet, too, but he seemed to like a nice guy with a great sense of humor.

I am saddened to hear of Joel’s untimely death. I had never met him face-to-face, but we had corresponded via Twitter and I as a fan of his works (both fictional and as a 2nd Amendment advocate). Prayers go out to his family.

I am so sorry. There will never be another Jdog.

Until someday for all of us, Joel.

Wow. Talk about a ton of bricks. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP JDog; save us a good seat.

This has been very depressing ever since I heard about it. I only spoke with him occasionally via email and never met him in person.

Not only am I saddened at the loss of someone who was becoming a friend, but we’ve lost a real warrior.

Saddened to hear this, even down under I had heard of the Jdog (primarily through comments of others). Thoughts are with his family and friends.
