Harris County Does Something Right

Houston, better known as Harris County around them parts, has selected its first public
defender
.

Alex Bunin, federal defender from the Northern District of New York.

From his bio at Albany Law School :

Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of New York. Appointed to establish that office by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Established federal defender offices in the District of Vermont and the Southern District of Alabama. Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1991. Author of articles on criminal law, criminal procedure, and the death penalty.

Excellent choice.  Your gain is the Northern District’s loss, and there’s probably no one more capable of establishing the office of Harris County Public Defender.
