Cops Gone Wild – When Cop Writes Cop

Hat tip to Robert Guest for turning me on to this great website, copswritingcops.com.  We all know that one of the perks of being a law enforcement officer (referred to as a LEO over at cops) is that neither you, your wife or kids, get a ticket, right?  Well, apparently that’s not always the case.  There are some LEOs who don’t respect the brotherhood’s mandate of professional courtesy.

So what happens when one cop “writes” another cop?  They get nominated for “Dick of the Month!”  Forgive my potty-mouth writing, but that’s what they call it.  And since I’m going to be using actual law enforcement lingo in this post, all sensitive readers who wish to avoid such references should cover their eyes immediately.

There is a surprisingly long list here of complaints about one LEO writing another, providing an extraordinary insight into the working of the cop mind.  Here’s a random cop post:

I would like to nominate Officer Mike Buzan from Crete,IL as a “DICK.”  Recently Ofc Buzan wrote a Lansing,IL police officer.  And of course this was after a rookie officer (Taylor) arrested a Lansing Police Officer’s wife on a suspended license (Emissions)-And he has been talked to, and advised that we do not arrest or write cops or their wives.
Heres the situation:  The Ofc. from Lansing was riding his motorcycle.  He “popped” a wheely and landed up dumping his bike and crashing.  Not the smartest thing to do, but no property damage and no one injured; including the Lansing Officer.  The situation could of been resolved with a simple 10-50 report.  But No, Officer Buzan who has been a police officer for about 18 years decides the Lansing Officer will get not one ticket, but TWO tickets.  Officer Buzan is well known (not well liked) at The Crete P.D. as being someone who thinks he should “police” the police.

Just a couple of months ago he decided he should tattle on two new officers for “going out of their patrol zones.”  What were these two officer’s crimes?  They had lunch with a new recruit who was in town for the weekend, and about to graduate the academy.  He also likes to report officers who might have an expired license plate or any other minor policy violation he sticks his nose into.  This is the tip of the iceberg, but make no mistakes this guy would write his own mother.

As you can see, when cops like Mike Buzan go bad, they go real bad.  This Buzan is a bad seed.  He does his job.  He expects other cops to do their job.  He takes his oath seriously.  He stays on the job even when it would be more fun to party with other cops.  Bad to the bone.  B’B’B’B’B’B’B’Bad.

But if you think hell hath no fury like a cop written, see what they have to say when they win “Dick of the Month”

Rebut –
Listen I give all cops breaks no matter what town or state they are from. I don’t know why you make a mockery out of cops who do the right thing. I have been trying to locate the ass—e from NYC who wrote this shi- about me. I feel that this whole thing is bull—t and that you are putting good reputations to shi-. I am for getting shit bags off the streets and not cops and family members. The cop who wrote in that said I gave his wife a ticket is bullshi-. My guess is that he is trying to ride the bandwagon or she never gave me the card until after the ticket was written. And we know at that point its too late. The incident that happened nearly 3 years ago was all bull. I gave that guy numerous options to leave his car on the side of the road. He elected to call me an asshole and said that ” The cops up here are Fuc–d up”. That is the story if you really want it. I was trying to not tow the guys car and show him professional courtesy and he calls me an asshole for doing my job. Not only that but you post me on the website as being a prick. As far as cops who know me and who get pulled over by me know they will continue to get breaks and professional courtesy as I expect the same for my family. But as far as Mr. “Yada Yada” who posted all of this bullshit he is in my book the asshole of the year. I believe that is his last name but I have it written down somewhere.

Scorching, eh?  Curious that LEO Rossi avoids writing in full certain curse words, but has no issue about “getting shit bags off the street and not cops and family members.”  The initial reference, in case you haven’t guessed yet, would be non-LEOs who don’t happen to have a cop in their immediate family.  They, by definition, are presumptively bad people, while Officer Rossi protests his Award by proclaiming his goodness, “I give all cops breaks!”  Bravo, Officer Rossi.  It’s good to know that the lives of the good people who believe that you are on the job to protect and serve come in a distant second to your protecting the brotherhood from the ravages of obeying the law.

I must admit, it’s quite amusing to read cops lambasting, and defending, one another for committing offenses in the first place, and then compounding it by proclaiming how they ignore their duty.  Not that anyone will be surprised or shocked by this revelation of one of the worst kept secrets in law enforcement, but that it’s so brazenly discussed and cops are so, well, proud of themselves for it.  And so, for those of us not sufficiently fortunate to enjoy membership in the brotherhood of those entitled to break the law with impunity, you can always buy those FOP license plate badges on eBay.  After all, if it’s good for cops, it’s good for America.

    — “potty-mouth writing”.–

Sadly, that made me giggle a bit before I caught myself and wondered how my sense of humor had degenerated to such a ridiculous level. Then I realized that my kids’ potty mouth humor is rubbing off on me.

It’s absolutely amazing what kids do to you.

    Scott-
Hilarious site and post. I blogged about it as well after I saw it here. It’s as if these few officers feel so powerful that the unwritten rules can now be brazenly described on the internet. I’m going to claim to be a “court officer” at my next traffic stop and demand some courtesy, pulling out my bar card. If they don’t oblige I’ll rant about it on that site!

just wanted to share a story about a Wisconsin State Patrol officer (Trooper A. Emmel) who was a total dick to me. I made an illegal U-turn (Ill readily admit I deserved the ticket). When I badged him he lectured me about how just because im a cop I dont deserve anymore courtesy from him than a janitor. Then when he wrote the ticket ($175.30) he made me sit by the side of the road while he explained the court procedure. Even after I told him that I understood it, he still made me site there and listen to him. What a prick!! I hope to catch him violating a traffic law in my state! To all the Wisconsin State Troopers, this guy makes you all look like assholes!!!

Wisconsin is notorious for going out of their way to write cops, especially the state police. I don’t think they realized that I had a ticket book too. Be careful grandma on your way to church. But, really, I couldn’t stoop that low.

You realize that this post is now almost 4 years old, right? You’re not likely to get much of a response.

Sorry I didn’t. And I didn’t realize you were a cop hater either, until I read some more.

The gist of it is this, if a janoitor drives by and see’s a State Trooper on the side of the road fighting for his life, the janitor will probably just keep driving, the off duty cop is the one who is going to stop and help.

I’m sure, and you’re the type of person I love to defend on charges for beating your wife!

Hi: Glad to see this. I am a retired Chicago cop. The other day I got a ticket from corporal cupcake in Russellville, Arkansas. I complained about it to his watch commander, but frankly, I would have to easily put him in the top five dumbest cops I have ever spoken to. I won’t bother you with the details, but basically he gave me a ticket because of a lane violation because of a traffic jam he was causing. Amazing. When I was assigned to the patrol division, I probably let 95% of the people I stopped go. Off Limits: cops, their families and friends,, police employees, fireman, paramedics, nurses, doctors, waitresses, ASA’s, judges, lawyers, and any reasonable person who made a minor mistake. No wonder so many people hate cops. I wish I could nominate him for “Dick of the month” but unfortunately the site is down. Anyway thanks for letting me vent. I am mostly sick to my stomach.

If you are here whining because cops get breaks from other cops, than don’t ask for one yourself. Every cop, everywhere, has discretion. Nobody is ever forced to write a ticket for a minor traffic violation. Is it my fault there are jerk cops everywhere? I actually saw one on his hands and knees hiding behind a tree with a radar gun. It’s embarrassing. If you are polite and reasonable, and I give you a pass, why can’t I have the same courtesy. The cops who don’t write cops don’t mess with regular people either. At least not where I come from.
