Having posted this week about the Supreme Court’s decision in Florence v. Board of Chosen Freeholders, where the Court deferred to the sound judgment of police and prison guards as to whether to strip and cavity search people regardless of how trivial or mistaken the reason they’ve decided to take a person into custody. it seemed worthwhile to remind people of exactly what we’re talking about.
Take what happened to Hope Steffey.
Though she ultimately settled with the county, the video reflects the trivial interest a human being has when compared with the vastly more important interest of not requiring the police and prison guards to be forced to think before they engage in needless conduct that fundamentally degrades a human being. Or worse.
Justice Kennedy thinks the price is worth it. You decide for yourself.
For those inclined to think, “well, if she’s in custody, she must have done something to deserve it.” she didn’t. And even if she did, only a truly sick person would find this scenario acceptable. The video is disgusting. Watch it. This has the seal of approval of the United States Supreme Court, because this never happens in America. Except it does, just not where anyone on the Supreme Court will see it.

I remember seeing that video. Gut wrenching, truly.
Unfortunately the disparity between reality and the version of reality as seen through the eyes of our Supreme Court justices continues to grow. It doesn’t matter how many seats are filled with minorities, the fact that they all went to top law schools, alone, prevents them from relating to a typical American. Add to that the bubble that the justices all live in, and there is no chance that they can ever see the world as the rest of us do.
Ya think?
I need to bathe with bleach after watching that.
What made it even more disgusting was that the thug kept chanting “just relax!”
Yep. Stop resisting. Resistance is futile. You will be violated, err, searched for contraband.
