Since I don’t have Disney +, I’ve never seen the Mandalorian, have no feelings about Baby Yoda and didn’t know who Gina Carano was until I learned she was canceled.
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Apparently, they were looking for reasons to get rid of her because of wrong views for a while. She liked Trump. She didn’t like masks. She listed her pronouns as “beep/bop/boop.” But it wasn’t until she brought up Jews being beaten in Nazi Germany that they finally had the goods to fire her.
This was deemed abhorrent, comparing what the Nazis did to Jews to how progressives in America hate those whose politics differ here. It’s not a good comparison by a long shot, and it would be entirely understandable to challenge her comparison on many levels. But abhorrent?
The irony here is that she was fired, canceled, for expressing a disputed and disagreeable comparison. An opinion.
As a Jew, I’m likely supposed to be outraged by this, as it’s my “cultural and religious heritage” under attack. But I’m not. I may not agree with the comparison, but then no moreso than my disagreement with SJWs shrieking Nazi at anyone who breaks from their orthodoxy. Why this is an acceptable comparison for some but not others, when it’s a terrible comparison for both, is a mystery to me. But then, I’m just not sufficiently woke.
Then again, I’m reliably informed that I’m supposed to be offended by “flippant” hamantaschen recipes.
If LucasFilm wants to fire Gina Carano, that’s up to them, but don’t hang it on offending Jews. Well, at least not this Jew.

Well that hook is going to be reverberating through my head for the rest of the day, so thank you for that.
Seriously, no sarcasm. Thanks.
When the fuck did people get it in their heads that we’re all about tummy rubs?
what’s ironic is that the only responses I can think of now involve doubling down and congratulating you on your astute observation. I’m sure that’ll work out well for me.
You’re killing me.
I don’t think anyone’s ever gonna make the mistake of thinking we’re “all about” that, my friend.
And since the owners of this here hotel keep forgetting to re-supply the scotch in the mini-bar in my room, a little love from the fans once in a while goes a long way.
So…. thank you very much Mr. Jeff.
I really appreciate a complement that doesn’t include drunken flecks of spit and beer on my guitar.
cheers, GD.
That’s why I posted it, but let’s not get crazy.
I saw that some of the pundits were explaining yesterday that only “conservatives” are troubled by this. Other pundits continue to maintain that this whole thing does not exist. So, no worries, I guess.
If your world is composed of only two tribes, then anyone who disagree must be conservative. I take issue with the premise, but that’s just me.
First of all, and entirely not on topic, figure out some way to watch The Mandalorian. It’s excellent. Very much a western in space and sort of reminds me of the Eastwood “Man with no Name” movies…..anyway….
Maybe on topic? It seems that many times the group that is supposed to be offended isn’t and the offended ones are not the group that should be offended, but are offended on behalf of the group that is not offended since the group that should be offended doesn’t know to be offended because they have been offended for so long they just think that being offended is the way its supposed to be.
Specifically with Gina Carano, she has made other seemingly negative comments related to LGBTQ+ and other chosen groups. The woke have been trying to get her off the show for about a year I think. This comment is actually less offensive (not that any of her comments have been actually offensive) than some of the other ones she has made.
Agreed. (I’m also Jewish, though that doesn’t really matter.)
As far as public statements relating to Jewish people go, this is pretty damn inoffensive: Rather than the usual targeting or blaming of Jewish people, its “offense” is limited to suggesting that it’s possible for other groups to be treated as badly as our ancestors were.
And if you look at the post-WW2 events in places like Rwanda, Russia, North Korea, China, and Vietnam, or others, this seems obviously true
At first, I wasn’t entirely clear what I was supposed to be offended about. Comparisons to the Nazis are so banal that it barely makes a ripple anymore.
I have asked several people for clarification on this matter. If the comparison to Jews denigrates them because current Republicans are not actually being rounded up and murdered, how would progressives explain being cool with comparing Trump to Hitler when he has not, in fact, rounded up any Democrats to be executed? I have not received any answers.
Yawn. Many, less influential, and apparently more intelligent than Gina, have signed an at-will employment contract with terms regarding what they can and can’t say on social media.
Ironic though, how quickly 21st-century ‘conservatives’ have found themselves arguing for workers to have their right to free speech guaranteed by employers when it is not in the constitution but is what their elders fought so hard against when speech unfettered by employers was a means for labor to organize.
Curiously irrelevant, yet pointless. Are you auditioning for Trump’s defense team?
It’s unlikely Trump would have accepted my defense strategy: “No mens rea by virtue of overwhelming stupidity.”
Nobody, ever, anywhere, will accept your strategy for anything unless they are determined to lose.
I still think Jake has naked picture of you with a goat, and that’s the only reason you don’t trash his comments.
I swear, there’s no goat.
