Remember when you thought that becoming an assistant United States attorney would be the sort of thing that would provide you with great experience, a secure future and the opportunity to do something you believed to be good for society? That was before the duo of Bondi and Blanche took over. Consider what they did to former First Assistant Desiree Leigh Grace in the District of New Jersey.
Trump’s appointed interim United States Attorney, parking garage lawyer Alina Habba, maxed out her 120 days on the job without confirmation. Considering she had no qualifications for the job whatsoever, no experience whatsoever, and kinda sucked really badly as a lawyer, it’s hard to understand why she wasn’t swiftly approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee invoking the Hegseth Rule. The only thing standing in her way was the two New Jersey senators who were vehemently against her appointment, which was not so easily ignored lest the Senate courtesy not be extended when the winds shifted.
Under 28 U.S.C § 546(d), the district court appointed a United States Attorney when the 120 days expires for the interim attorney. The court could have appointed Habba, but the court instead selected the most Trump-approved qualified person, Grace, instead.
The panel of federal judges rejected Alina Habba’s bid to stay in the job as the state’s U.S. attorney. Instead, they invoked a rarely used power to select a candidate of their own, Desiree Leigh Grace, an experienced prosecutor whom Ms. Habba had named as her first assistant soon after she took over as interim U.S. attorney in March.
Grace was experienced. Grace was Habba’s (who, it should be noted had so settled into the job that she had already put up three portraits of herself in the conference room) pick for first assistant. Grace was, unlike Habba, qualified to be United States Attorney. Naturally, that infuriated Pam Bondi.
But the attorney general, Pam Bondi, responded Tuesday evening with a social media post defending Ms. Habba and saying that the first assistant — Ms. Grace — “has just been removed.”
What did Desiree Leigh Grace do to deserve to get burned? Bondi didn’t care. Everyone is expendable in the service of Trump, and if Trump wanted his gal to be US Attorney and good Grace stood in the way, off with her head.
But Bondi wasn’t done yet, using the almighty power handed down to her by the Supreme Court which had held that district judges are dogmeat to be ignored, lied to, harassed and ridiculed.
“This Department of Justice does not tolerate rogue judges — especially when they threaten the President’s core Article II powers,” Ms. Bondi wrote.
Complying with the statute makes them “rogue judges,” and Bondi won’t “tolerate” them? Will she tell K$sh to send in the guys with guns and round them up for the next plane to South Sudan? But I digress.
Surely a real lawyer, who had actual experience working as a prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s office, would know better than to dive heard first into this cesspool of incompetence and idiocy. Todd Blanche, where are you?
The district judges in NJ just proved this was never about law—it was about politics. They forced out President Trump’s pick, @USAttyHabba, then installed her deputy, colluding with the NJ Senators along the way. It won’t work. Pursuant to the President’s authority, we have… https://t.co/2Jyphdhaum

Is Todd that stupid? Can he possibly be so utterly clueless as to not realize what the law provides? What could possibly compel him to twit something so totally wrong? That would be loyalty above all else.
Except firing poor Desiree Leigh Grace as first assistant for no better reason than to burn her in order to attempt to prop up a grossly unqualified Trump loyalist neither makes the district court’s appointment of Grace go away nor puts Habba back into the job. There was no requirement that Grace be in the employ of the office before she was appointed by the court, and burning her for Habba’s sake was not merely outrageous, but stupid and petty.
Given how many prosecutors have been unceremoniously fired, whether for doing their job against a person now in Trump’s favor or for a person Trump now hates, or for just refusing to lie and engage in unethical conduct because His Honor Bove told you to, the burning of Desiree Leigh Grace on the altar of Alina Habba should give you pause. No matter how much they love you today, you could be sacrificed tomorrow, vilified and burned, and no one at the Trump trough will blink, no less shed a tear. You might give some serious thought to moving along now, as there’s no longer a future at the prosecution table.

The Sopranos didn’t operate quite this brazenly. Even in the land of Senators taking Shiek-money and rabbis selling body parts, this is jaw-droppingly jaw dropping. Essex County, I hardly knew you. Now I don’t.
OTOH, Habba is kind of hot. What is she wearing In the portraits in conference room?
Enquiring minds want to know.
I wonder if non-lawyers can appreciate just how despicable this is and how full of shit Bondi and Blanche are to deliberately lie about it. I can’t imagine how anyone would want to be an AUSA under these circumstances, where no matter what they do, how good they are, how loyal to Trump they may be, they will still get thrown under the bus. The US Attorneys offices will be staffed by unethical scumbags who couldn’t get jobs anywhere else when the competent lawyers flee for higher ground.
When you’re,
With the Trumpdrones,
Have a Habba-dabba-do time,
A Habba-dabba-do time,
You’ll have a gay ol’ time!!
Is it clear that Trump/DOJ has the power to fire the person appointed by the judges?
[Ed. Note: She can be fired from her position as first assistant, not as court appointed US Attorney.]
