Why Yes, I Am Offended By Huckabee

From Ol’  Norm Pattis comes this bit of garbage from the heartland.  I feel confident that there will be wide swathes of America who will see absolutely nothing wrong with this Huckabee advertisement, and indeed will see me as some nasty New York Jew for even questioning its beautiful, peaceful, heartfelt message of deeply held religious reverie.  To those of you who think this way, bite me.

You are entitled to keep whatever religious ferver you want in your hearts, in your homes, in your churches and in your children.  But keep you religion out of my public offices.  Religion is personal.  Religion is not scam to be played to tug at your heartstrings, as if the other guys are all satan-lovers and he’s the choice of true believers.

And I’m offended, you should be twice as pissed.  This yokel has pulled out religion to pander for your vote, as if you are so stupid that you’ll be swallowed up in all the nice music and warm glow of the background and believe that Jesus supports his candidacy.  He is playing religion as if it’s some magic cure for erectile dysfunction.  Is that what your religion means to you?

How pathetic that this man’s religion means so little to him that he will use it to manipulate people.  Yes, I am offended.  I hope you are too.

When he arrives we will of course make accommedations. Bless you, child. And remember: study the grilled cheese sandwichs before you eat them.

Appearing on a Sunday talk show, Huckabee was asked about tax increases he approved while governor. He said “that was 100 pounds ago and I was in a sugar stupor.”

Will this ad also draw a Twinkie defense?!

While I accept your sentiments, and for the most part agree with them … On the other side of the same coin are people who are taking the word Christmas away from the celebration that takes place on Dec 25th; And there are those who don’t want the boy scouts in public parks; And there are those who want alternative life styles taught to children in public schools.

What goes for one life style should go for all.

And something is posted here to the contrary?  You have to take your disputes to the people you have disputes with.

Though, while alternative lifestyles shouldn’t be taught to children, neither should they be hidden or banned or denigrated as being sick and disgusting because they are “unChristian” or the Bible says so.  Fair is fair, right?  And I know you want to be fair.

“You have to take your disputes to the people you have disputes with.” I don’t have a dispute I empathize with Christians who do and want to here the word Christmas … And Huckabee states the word clearly and it makes some say halaluya.

For me personally they are all overplaying their positions.

… neither should they be hidden or banned or denigrated … not all aspects of an adults life needs to be public, and nothing related to a lifestyle should be banned from an adult. Parents should have the last word in what is taught to their children – and what they are exposed too. If the state wants to dictate moral values then the state should pay for the children as well. As it is the parents that must invest in the child and ultimately into college and adulthood — their investment is more than money.

Ah, as I expected.  If you want to hear the word “Chistmas”, then get some friends and maybe they’ll offer you enough “Merry Christmases” to sate your Jesus lust.  But if you need to hear a politician pandering to ignorance, then you probably should wonder why you’re not getting enough personal feedback in other aspects of your life.  Perhaps you should spend more time in Church and less online?

And as for parents teaching their children, of course they should.  Nothing about public education precludes parents from doing so.  On the other hand, everyone in society “pays”, both in money and societal costs, for every child.  So parents don’t have the right to teach their children hatred, ignorance and selfishness, no matter how much parents think Jesus would want their children to hate others in the name of God.

I hope your not getting the idea that I think efforts to wrap this warped vision in Chistianity is wrong, but I would encourage you to consider why you find your personal home and church life so flagrantly inadequate to fill your theologic needs that you have to push it into other people’s lives to fulfill your religious ferver.  And if Huckabee ever comes to visit you, you can ask him to say “Chirstmas” as many times as you like.  But he doesn’t need to make it the centerpiece of his candidacy, unless he’s running for the Christian Ayatollah.
