Not Today

Having started more than a half dozen posts, each of which struck me as obvious and pointless, I decided not to post anything today. I’m disgusted with the level of discourse and refuse to spend the time and energy required to discuss what ought to be obvious to any reasonably intelligent person.

You want to talk about it? Be my guest. Today, I have nothing to say.

It’s a litmus test of sorts. Maybe I need to come to grips with the fact that nutjobs are all we’ve got.

    I resemble that remark.

It’s only a few hours until the NYG and NYJ games. Two awesome games.

Now, it’s time to cut the line at the Bellagio buffet. It’s the best benefit of Hyatt status .

The White House janitor is only hella-wise on TV shows. In reality, he’s just some dude with a mop.

I’m voting for Hillary, not because I think she’s great, but because she’s a business-as-usual politician who won’t screw things up too badly. I don’t expect great things, but I do expect she won’t “nuke ISIS” or make sweetheart deals with Putin.

Personally, I see it as a choice between the lying lawyer/politician vs. the lying narcissist/clown (although I may get slapped around a bit on this website for voicing it that way). It’s definitely a choice between the “lesser of two evils.”

Too bad you couldn’t have joined me at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) student conference yesterday. I’m sure you would have left with a lot to write about.

I attended a workshop on microagressions. We had name tags that stated our pronouns. In one workshop, the kids went around stating their names and their preferred pronouns. Half a dozen said they didn’t care.

As far as you’re concerned, I meant what I said: you would have left with a lot to write about. I don’t mean that I know what you would have written. I know these are topics you write about. I also think a lot more about these things now from a perspective I might not have considered before because of Simple Justice.

I went because some of my high school students needed a second chaperone. On a professional level, I was there to support them. On a personal level, I was looking at things from a cultural level. In one workshop, the kids were grossed out by Eisentstadt’s famous photo “The Kissing Sailor,” of which they disapproved due to the lack of consent and heteronormativity.

These particular kids. Probably 90% were LGBTQ+ or “allies.” One of my students wears a tail. He’s a “furry.” Some are pansexual, which, for the life of me, I can’t wrap my mind around. It seems to be used by straight girls in this community. There was a guy in his late 50s who teaches at a private school. He was wearing a skirt and had shaved legs. He had shoulder-length hair. He introduced himself as “Bill.” I’m happy to say that I’m getting inured to the eccentricities.

The gender neutral bathrooms were also a stretch. I use the boys room without discomfort, but I was using a urinal in a gender neutral bathroom when a couple of girls walked in. After that, I used the stall. I don’t care about using the bathroom with women, but high school girls–I have to draw a line there.

The conference was interesting as a cultural event. Everyone is welcome, but there is a very clear set of values that are embraced and inculcated. Most of the workshops are presented by kids for kids and learning the lingo and the value system is very palpable.

I’d say more than 99.5% of the student population has no idea what heteronormativity is. Same for our faculty, except 50% of them could figure it out.

Take the day off most-esteemed one. I primarily use this blawg anyway to access the finest collection of links on one page, your BlawgRoll and Criminal Defense Blawgs (jk).

    Bills: A+
When you hand the Patriots their first home shut out loss since 1993, you get an “A+.” What the Bills defense did to the Patriots on Sunday was a football massacre. The Bills defense was so good in the first half that the Patriots were only able to put together ONE drive that went for over 10 yards. The Bills also got an impressive contribution from LeSean McCoy who touched the ball 25 times for a total of 108 yards (70 rushing, 38 receiving) and a touchdown in the game.
    Patriots: F
Patriots fans, let’s just pretend this game never happened. As a matter of fact, when you wake up on Monday, you can also just go ahead and pretend Tom Brady’s suspension never happened.

Well, the Saints managed not to lose this time.
As for the rest of the news, not paying attention, beyond “WWIII hasn’t broken out, and that big hurricane is still heading somewhere else”. We have a new dog in the house, and she keeps us busy.
