The back story remains unclear. There is nothing to show that he tried to run any protesters down, although claims to that effect have been made. Others say he came to the aid of a transgender woman being beaten by protesters, for which there is video, although it’s unclear what was happening.
But what was clear was that he crashed his truck following his attempt to get away and then things got worse.
As the driver sat on the ground, a person wearing a vest with “SECURITY” written on the front and back ran from behind and kicked the driver in the face, apparently knocking him unconscious, according to witnesses and multiple videos. The driver remained still on the ground with his eyes closed.
When did some random person who, inexplicably, has “SECURITY” written on his vest, get the authority to do this? If you hated it when the police did it, is it somehow better when it’s a mob without constraints being brutal?
If the alternative to a bad system run under the auspices of elected government is this, vicious and brutal beatings in the streets, we have a problem.
The alternative to bad isn’t necessarily good. It can always get worse. This is worse. In Houston Austin, an armed protester pointed a gun at a driver who was disinclined to give up his right to use the public roadways, and responded by pulling out his own gun and killing the person. Must every person carry a gun just in case someone who decided to write “SECURITY” on his vest feels entitled to beat whomever he chooses?
As bad as it was before, this is worse. Many will invent excuses, lies that only the truest of believers would accept, to justify this conduct. This was an oppressed black man, so he can beat someone because reasons. The mob remembers Heather Heyer, so they are justified in fearing anyone in a car might run them down, so they can beat him first. “Systems of oppression” are at work, so the woke must do what they must, even if it means a few beatings, to end them. The cops have been killing black men forever, so this isn’t as bad.
Are you ready to be beaten, maybe die? Are you really so woke that you can be as vicious and evil as the monster you hate? If beating others is what you want to do, you’re just as twisted as your worse enemy. Is that who you are?

Dozens of twitterers have identified the “Security” kicker. He actually works as armed private security, it seems. Meanwhile, the Multnomah County DA has described this crime as “concerning.” Is that what DA’s do now, show concern? Have they abandoned the notion of arresting and charging? The Portland Mayor has “denounced all violence.” Today, anyway. Calls are in to the Feds to sweep into Portlandia and indict for riot. How did that go last month? Meanwhile, back in Milwaukee there is this convention…
The situations are becoming untenable, where they can’t be allowed to continue but they can’t be stopped.
Though I’m disinclined to participate in spreading the name and the various doxxing details that go with it at least until it’s firmly confirmed that it actually is the right person, given how many times in the past Internet mobs have falsely identified perpetrators of atrocities caught on video.

Can Harris use this opportunity to thread a very fine needle and temporarily assume her self proclaimed mantle of top cop? She currently holds no position other than Senator, but could she persuade the violent woke that things will change once she’s a heartbeat away from being President in 2021, and will then be the “new and improved “ progressive Kamala? I doubt it and we’d still have myriad problems. But an old man can dream. I fear there’s little else to do.
I fear Harris’ utility to the woke only goes as far as ousting Trump. After that, they despise her, although she will do what she can to pander to them so she can gain their support to win the next presidential election. She will do whatever she has to do to win, much like someone else but smarter.
It’s better when “Security” people beat the shit out of citizens, because the “Security” people aren’t supposed to protect and serve. The public has no expectations of “Security” as they do for the police. It’s the same reason we have protests when police kill a black person, but no protests in the thousands of cases in which black criminals kill a black person.
When criminals behave like criminals, that’s the nature of the beast. When cops behave like criminals, under the authority we vest in them, it’s different and worse.
But when an extralegal “police force” with mob legitimacy arises, which is it, criminal or cop?
Criminal, it would seem. They are getting the criminal “pass” on outrage.

The attorneys for the guy who shot the protester in Austin, Daniel Perry, put out a statement that says he initially thought Garrett Foster was a cop. Despite initial media reports, that statement and witness accounts from protesters both agree that Foster was holding his rifle but not actually pointing it at Perry when Perry shot.
What difference does it make where the rifle was pointing. It takes a tenth of a second to swing the barrel and fire. Then its too late to return fire.
The feeling I get with people like that out on the streets is pretty much the opposite of “security”.
Just because they hate cops for being cops doesn’t mean they don’t want to be cops, except without any of the restraint of cops. This is like cosplay for the vicious.
At what point does the seemingly intractable mayhem of Seattle and Portland warrant actual military intervention? Personally I think it Callow to believe a change in president changes anything.
