She had no qualifications to be an ambassador, which hardly makes her an unusual choice for a prominent position in the Trump administration. Despite Trump’s routine Manafort-style denial that he barely knew who she was,* her appointment came days after Junior was photographed holding hands with his then-new squeeze, later his wife, Bettina Anderson, complete with party paid by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev. In Trump world, getting Kimberly Guilfoyle out of the country and away from Junior is as good a reason to shuffle her off to Greece as any other.
And now she’s out. Not quite fired, even though Trump told her to resign so resign she did, she’s lost the gig after she committed two of the most egregious offenses possible in Trump world. First, she embarrassed him by her attempt to sell her purported access for a mere $100 grand. Second, she failed to offer Trump his piece of the grift. The boss always gets his piece, even if she sold cheap.
Today, the junior Mr. Trump is married to a Florida socialite and model. And Ms. Guilfoyle, who was nominated as ambassador to Greece by the president soon after her engagement to his son was broken off two years ago, is out of a job after a series of damning reports in The Wall Street Journal, including that she asked a Republican donor to pay off $100,000 on her American Express credit card just before her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025.
Is it right to jump on the bandwagon of Guilfoyle haters now that she’s down and out? Probably not, but I don’t need to ponder such matters. I hated Kimberly Guilfoyle long before it was cool.
Just finished watching the Today show, where some gal named Susan Filan did the legal commentary on the post-Paris fallout. Quick piece of advice, Sue. If you have no clue what you’re talking about, then don’t talk. There are a ton of competent lawyers out there. Can’t they use one of them? The only “analyst” who is invariably worse is Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom.
The links are old and dead because I wrote that in 2007. Years ago, long before Guilfoyle and Gavin Newsom parted ways and Guilfoyle shed any pretense of decency, she was doing occasional legal commentary at ABC, along with Court TV and Fox. Her positioning was that she spoke as a criminal defense lawyer, with the “former prosecutor” hook so beloved by TV producers to give instant cred to the unworthy, as if being a former prosecutor conveyed expertise that real criminal defense lawyers somehow lacked.
There she was, being asked crim law questions and spewing outrageous nonsense that no competent criminal defense lawyer would ever say. It infuriated me, as she not only made people stupider on network news, but she also denigrated the Constitution and the fundamental tenets of due process and presumption of innocence about which people already cared so very little.
At the time, I asked a friend why, oh why, would they put someone like Kimberly Guilfoyle on air as a criminal defense lawyer when she proved herself a disingenuous ignoramus. Did it not matter that she had no clue what she was talking about? Did it not matter that she was fundamentally wrong?
No, I was informed. No, it did not matter. She filled the air time and had sufficient credentials not to make the network look foolish for putting her butt in the seat. But, I replied, there are so many others, Nancy Grace and Greta Van Susteren notwithstanding, who had similarly facile credentials but knew what they were talking about and could offer intelligent, thoughtful and accurate commentary. Why not them? Why not me?
The response was not what I expected. “I guess because she’s better looking than you are.”
Am I sorry to see her climb to fame and fortune end like this? No. But then, I would have said the same thing in 2007.
*When asked, Trump replied “She wasn’t a member of my family,” he said. “She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago.”
