Just announced by the New York Lawyer, SUNY Buffalo Binghamton is planning to open its every own, brand-spanking new . . . Law School!
Binghamton University President Lois DeFleur said that she has been in ongoing talks with State University of New York (SUNY) officials and with the American Bar Association about the school. The proposal would need the approval of the governor and the state’s education department.
Why? Our children aren’t miserable enough? There aren’t enough students competing for handful of Biglaw jobs that pay 47 times a first year associate’s worth? There aren’t enough lawyers fighting over the rotten carcass of a PI plaintiff?
Society needs many thing. But not another law school.

The law school is for Binghamton, not Buffalo. Buffalo already has a law school. If not, then I can’t figure out what I was doing in tha town for three years.
Maybe this school will focus on churning out real lawyers, not academicians?
Binghamton, Buffalo, whatever. I’ve changed it. Sorrrry.
As for what you were doing in Buffalo for 3 years, that’s an entirely different subject.
Yeah, right. For about 10 minutes, until it gets all pompous and serious about how it’s all “scholarly”.
No matter, it will churn out lawyers one way or the other. Like we need another school to churn out more lawyer.
The market does not need another law school, but New York State’s deep pockets will prop it up unfortunately. And keep SUNYAB law school going, too. Spending our money wisely is no object.
Oh, and it’s a big state. You should visit it sometime.
Hey! I’ve been to Binghamton. What am I, a cultural Philistine?
My my. It’s only a joke. [Edit. Note: Duh. We don’t use the phrase cultural Philistine lightly, you know.]
I said the same thing to a VIP in Manhattan back in August. ‘Cause she commented she had never seen Niagara Falls. But I am sure she made it to Seneca Falls in recent years with my sister for some women’s rights convention or other. I passed.
Anyhow, she didn’t seem to take it in jest, either. And her hometown is Cincinnati!
