The Mod Squad

The person in Washington, D.C. most affected by Trump’s outrageous twit was Nancy Pelosi. If Trump possesses the capacity to be devious, his twit was tactically brilliant. If not, he just got lucky. Either way, he took Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti’s smack at dinosaur Pelosi and turned it into a movement.

They call themselves the Squad. Four frosh congresswomen. Four women of color. Four women who speak their minds, and use whatever words they choose to do so.  And with the clapping hands of a million woke emojis, they have become the public face of the Democratic Party.

Pelosi told me, after the A.O.C. Squad voted against the House’s version of the border bill and trashed the moderates — the very people who provided the Democrats the majority — that the Squad was four people with four votes. She was talking about a legislative reality. If it was a knock, it was for abandoning the party.

That did not merit A.O.C.’s outrageous accusation that Pelosi was targeting “newly elected women of color.” She slimed the speaker, who has spent her life fighting for the downtrodden and who was instrumental in getting the first African-American president elected and passing his agenda against all odds, as a sexist and a racist.

Before AOC, House Speaker Pelosi was pretty far left, arguably much further left than most Democrats. But those were in the olden days, before Trump. In the New Age, Pelosi was relegated to sexist and racist status, just like most Democrats, and her effort to rein in the wild horses didn’t just reflect her racism and sexism, but was tantamount to enabling their death.

The young lawmaker went further, implying that the speaker was putting the Squad in danger, asking why Pelosi would criticize them, “knowing the amount of death threats” and attention they get. Huh?

Criticizing Trump, which has become something of a national pastime, has been correctly characterized as a completely American thing to do. But criticize the deliberately loud and provocative Mod Squad and it’s a call for death. So the Squad can attack, but no defense is allowed.

The A.O.C. crew threw down the gauntlet in a recent opinion piece in The Washington Post by The Intercept’s Ryan Grim. He wrote that when Pelosi and other Democratic mandarins try to keep the image of the party centrist, they are crouching in “the defensive posture” they’ve been in since the Reagan revolution.

Corbin Trent, a spokesman for A.O.C. and co-founder of Justice Democrats, the progressive group that helped propel her, told Grim: “The greatest threat to mankind is the cowardice of the Democratic Party,” with the older generation “driven by fear” and “unable to lead.”

But who’s in charge of this Brave New World, where the time has come for the old progressive dinosaurs to die off and the Squad to assume their rightful place of power?

And then there’s the real instigator, Saikat Chakrabarti, A.O.C.’s 33-year-old chief of staff, who co-founded Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress, both of which recruited progressives — including A.O.C. — to run against moderates in Democratic primaries. The former Silicon Valley Bernie Bro assumed he could apply Facebook’s mantra, “Move fast and break things,” to one of the oldest institutions in the country.

Chakrabarti isn’t just after Trump, which is a given, but the deadwood of the Democratic Party that stands in the way of, well, everything. And they don’t just seek to ease into power, but to seize it by destroying their enemy.

The progressives act as though anyone who dares disagree with them is bad. Not wrong, but bad, guilty of some human failing, some impurity that is a moral evil that justifies their venom.

Nancy Pelosi isn’t just old, which would be bad enough. She isn’t just a coward driven by fear. She’s part of the “greatest threat to mankind,” and she must be destroyed at all costs. As global opinions editor for the Washington Post, Karen Attiah, twitted, Pelosi is to blame for Trump’s attack on the Squad.

If “by any means necessary” sounds like a threat, it is. It’s the same rationalization used by Antifa for beating people. It’s an excuse for violence, lies, for punching Nazis (or anyone who might be a Nazi since it’s better to be safe than sorry) and for silencing speakers with whom you disagree. And now Nancy Pelosi is as evil as Donald Trump. Trump couldn’t be happier than to be part of this Axis of Shevil.

But it would be a mistake to give Trump too much credit for swinging at this slow pitch.

Chakrabarti sent shock waves through the Democratic caucus when he posted a tweet about the border bill comparing moderate and Blue Dog Democrats — some of whom are black — to Southern segregationists in the ’40s.

Rahm Emanuel told me Chakrabarti is “a snot-nosed punk” who has no idea about the battle scars Pelosi bears from the liberal fights she has led.

You remember Rahm, Obama’s first chief of staff who left to become mayor of Chicago and keep the Laquan McDonald murder video under wraps for as long as possible.

“We fought for years to create the majorities to get a Democratic president elected and re-elected, and they’re going to dither it away. They have not decided what’s more important: Do they want to beat Trump or do they want to clear the moderate and centrists out of the party? You really think weakening the speaker is the right strategy to try to get rid of Donald Trump and everything he stands for?”

Of course they want to get rid of Trump, but they also want to “clear the moderate and centrists out of the party,” whom the Squad and their acolytes view as more of a danger to their new world order. Trump’s evil is manifest in their eyes, but the greater evil is a moderate voice in the Democratic Party which stands in their way and dilutes their message and power.

They want the dinosaurs gone so the Squad can take charge. They believe they are the future and the past only drags them down, and they will use “any means necessary” to rid themselves of this meddlesome speaker and her ilk. Trump approves.

        Ineluctable, pure, on the natch,
        Like a Trotskyist-Stalinist match.
Looks like Trump learned a habit
        From his mentor, Br’er Rabbit:
“Please don’t throw me in that briar patch!”

I once admired AOC for her voice and her grit. But she revealed who she really is. A typical SJW who thinks anyone over the age of 50 should just exit the arena so the woke can take charge. The arrogance and immaturity of her generation is nothing short of shocking, speaking from experience. The Democrats might as well hand Trump a second term on a silver platter. They have learned nothing from 2016. Dividing the party over hubris plays right into the GOP playbook. And it’s worse this time since Bernie looks like a teddy bear compared to the The Squad. If there is any chance to beat Trump we need to pick a candidate, any candidate, and get behind that candidate 100%. But that won’t happen. I fear for the future of this country.

Remember the Halcyon days of 2008, when universal liberalism, civil rights for all, equality for all, seemed almost in reach? Good times.

Someone once called AOC “politician sexy,” as she was young, cute, vibrant and bold, which is way beyond the norm for anyone in Congress. But in anywhere else, she wouldn’t make a dent.

That video did more to elevate AOC than anything she could ever say. She was fun and adorable. No one in Congress had ever been fun and adorable before.

So a generation that came of age in a time that the best that was said of Congress was that it was weak and incompetent should shut up and listen to the Old Guard?

This must be a disease, as it’s becoming an epidemic.

You can disagree with what she said all you want, but don’t attribute your strawman to her.

Somebody’s got to do it. Though no longer able to handle heights, I can still reach even lower . . .

Too bad….I’ve got a whole truck load of it right now. Might have to siphon some off for the members here to use.

Man, i need to learn to NOT push play when you make a comment like that…
that jack guy* triggers my creep-o-meter without the gratuitous fruit rape imagery.
            * Don’t quote me on this, but I’m pretty sure hes the love child of the rocket scientist and Satanist, Jack Parsons and a conjured Succubus.

LOL Howl. The young and diverse mod squad taking on the perceived enemy. The more things change the more they stay the same.

So, the Gang of Four shows up, all newbies, and they decide to insult and be rude to everyone else, including all the senior members of their own party, and then blame Pelosi for “isolating” them. I think they have missed a certain precept which operates generally, and not just in the House of Representatives. If you’re going to stroll through the forest kicking every bear in the ass, you better be ready to fight every bear.

Now they seem to be back to recognizing Trump as the common enemy, after he turned back to tweeting against Pelosi and proposed to send Tlaib back to Detroit.
