It’s been a grueling campaign season. Ridiculous amounts of money have paid for a relentless stream of television advertisements ranging from the flagrantly deceitful to the overtly disgusting. But it’s now over and time for decisions to be made. Will this be the end of the 2026 midterms or the start of a new round of games to undermine democracy?
Trump will now be officially the lamest of ducks, not that it will stop him from efforts to impose his aesthetics upon a nation that doesn’t share his adoration of goldish doodads and the construction of monuments to his imagined glory. The war of choice in Iran remains unresolved and unresolvable, the Epstein files remain undisclosed, the enemies of Trump remain perpetual targets of prosecution by a Justice Department that exists to do Trump’s bidding, America’s standing in the world has been reduced to an untrustworthy pariah and prices at the pump and the grocery store continue to crush Americans.
Should the Democrats take Congress, whether one or both Houses, will they do anything more than hold hearings, possibly an impeachment or two, that will go nowhere and change nothing? Will the Democrats be the party that ends America’s affiliation with Israel or quashes the inherent anti-Semitism that it shares with the MAGA White Nationalists?
Will the dueling schisms within both parties between liberals and progressives on the Democratic side, and MAGA and conservatives on the Republican side, split the parties or force them to come to a reckoning that they can no longer co-exist?
Consider this an open thread, within reason, to speculate what happens tomorrow, and the week and month afterward, as the fallout of the midterms crystallizes (metastasizes?) whether we want to see it or not. What will tomorrow bring? Can we survive it? Must we adapt to it? Will anything change?

Israel shares an inherent anti-Semitism with MAGA? (Thinks). OK, I see it, tough but fair.
I think there are a number of cases the dems can litigate that currently have standing issues. I also think they will be able to have a modest influence through the budget process. Unfortunately, I dont see an end to the Iran war or the tarriff situation anytime soon.
At least I’ll stop getting spam texts to a phone number I don’t give out…
“Did you know Roy Cooper eats babies sacraficed to Ba’al? Be the vote of reason this election…”
“There’s only two choices on the ballot, vote …” (No, there’s an LP guy that seems more reasonable than either major party, pox on both their houses, and I can write in “give me better choices”)
This is America.
Not much will change… the current admin has set precedences that will be exploited repeatedly in the future. Any truly honest leader will get crushed long before they can even Sniff the White House.
Surely this is the election where everyone will come together in national unity after the results are announced, and no one will call those with whom they disagree “nazis” or “literally Hitler” after these votes are counted. Right?
Well a guy can dream, can’t he?
If things go as anticipated, many people will be elected specifically NOT to come together in unity with Trump.
Lord, I’m glad this election is over. I have seen my share of dirty tricks in elections but the personal attacks on both sides is really beyond the pale.
I went to my polling place and it was a constant stream of people, which is a good thing. However, I have to wonder who studied the issues and political stands and who just took a list from their party.
Robert Heinlein.
“Democracy’s worst fault is that its leaders are likely to reflect the faults and virtues of their constituents.”
Truer words were never spoken, especially in this round of elections.
Well, I voted against all of the judges on the ballot. Someone has to remind them that they aren’t considered wonderful by everyone. They’re all going to be retained anyway.
