Practical Blawgosphere: The Dozier Demand Scam

While this has floated around blawgs as the joke of the week, I wanted to make sure that my amigos in the practical blawgosphere were alerted to the Dozier Demand Scam, as noted by my good buddies, the Turk at New York Personal Injury Law, here and here, and Andrew Lavoott Bluestone at New York Attorney Malpractice Blog. (BTW, Andrew has a post about strip clubs right beneath it, if you need a little motivation to go there.)

The hubbub is all about a demand letter sent by a lawyer who has dubbed his biz The Dozier Internet Law Firm (which I believe reflects the fact that they can put you to sleep faster than any other internet law firm) to Public Citizen.  This guy Dozier sends a “cease and desist letter” on behalf of its client to take down a complaint website about “scams” that defamed the client.  This aspect is no big deal, since it happens fairly regularly and these letters tend to produce scorn and laughter around the blawgosphere.

But Dozier added a new twist that elevated him to new heights of blawgosphere ridicule.  He claimed that his cease and desist letter was itself copyrighted, and therefore directed Public Citizen not to publish the letter itself on the internet.  So naturally, that’s exactly what they did.

The scuttlebutt around the blawgosphere is whether this is a cynical attempt to get the Dozier name out there amongst the blawgs to up their google page rank and get this firm on the radar of people who would otherwise never have heard of it.  If so, then Dozier deserved more credit than he’s given.  But this motive has been met with skepticism since Dozier has been universally viewed as a jerk, and worse yet, a jerk whose actions have hurt his client by alerting as many people as possible to the allegations of scam and discontent.

Regardless, for those of us who are so focused on our little corner of the blawgosphere that we don’t hear about things like this, be aware that if you get a letter like this, it makes for great posting fodder and will do wonders for your google page rank.

And by the way, Dozier is a Super Lawyer!  His motto?  “You better know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em.”  Methinks Public Citizen called his bluff, and he had nothing in his hand.

There are attorneys who may be real bottom feeders. Now that doesn’t mean that all attorneys are bad. But every profession has some questionable characters.

Personally I think that John Dozier, SUPER Bull…. Dozier may be a very small dog with a very loud bark. He made the mistake of crossing swords with the professional inventor community and ended up with far more than he bargained for. See: http://www.CyberTrialLawyer-SUCKS.com.

It has been nearly a year and Super Bull… Lawyer John Dozier seems to be a bit helpless. If he tries to bully us again we will castrate the Bull…. lawyer by having all those Dozier SUCKS domains and more go live.
