Having made a sufficient stink around the blawgosphere about the pending ABA Beauty Pageant, to the point where Walter Olson is even posting about it on his Point of Law blawg (where he’s willing to make snide remarks in order to insulate his Overlawyered blawg, which is in 1st place in the “Corporate Teet” category [I hope he’s got a sense of humor]).
As my critics suggested, actually tripped all over themselves to be the first to scream, when it comes to a beauty pageant, we ugly.
U – G – L – Y, You ain’t got no alibi, You UGLY!
Yes, it’s true. Simple Justice is currently in 5th place and falling fast, behind Blond Ambition Justice. It’s not like I don’t understand. I mean, why would anybody want to read breaking news or cutting-edge commentary when you could read about behavioral issues with children on shopping trips. Sigh.
So there you have it. I feel like the Bruno Magli shoes of the practical blawgosphere. I hope you’re all happy now.

This “facelift” hasn’t help any, either.
Bite me. They screwed everything up again yesterday (and then denied it was them, telling me I must have made code changes to their program). So, I’m trying. Cut me a break.
I’ll tell you again. Switch to WordPress. Bite the bullet on the lost investment that is this GoDaddy blogging program. Go to bluehost and get WP set up.
No, seriously, try movabletype or wordpress. I had the same sorta hangup a couple years back, BUT you should be able to export all your post in to WP or MT.
Scott,
Your blog template is clean and neat. You don’t need bling (though I know you know enough to add bling if you want it). Content is king. None of us can help it if readers and “critics” would rather read about bloggers’ brats and shenanigans under judicial robes. Me, I’d rather read about Simple Justice.
Best wishes,
Jim
Thank you Jim. You’re very kind.
The program issue isn’t bling, but a regular series of basic formatting problems. It was a terrible mistake to start this blawg with a crappy program from godaddy rather than a decent program like WordPress, but I didnt know any better when I started. It’s just a matter of eliminating needless headaches now.
Gideon’s right, using better blogging software will take a lot of the headache out of blogging. I’ve been doing this for five years, and I’m really glad I switched to better software early in the process. It only gets harder as you post more stuff.
Jim’s right too, your template is fine. For a blog, once you’ve got the basics—readability, searchability, and linkability—the only real purpose of your design is to make your site “sticky.”
That is, people will stumble across your blog from search engines or follow links from other blogs, and you want them to think “Oh, it’s the blue-themed, squared-off blog with the photo of the prisoners in the corner. I found something good here once before. Maybe I should add it to my favorites.”
I use MovableType myself, but WordPress is also terrific, and probably a little better for small-time bloggers like us. If I were starting over, I’d probably pick WordPress, but it’s not worth the trouble to switch.
The biggest problem with moving is that a lot of people have already linked to you, and it may not be easy to have your WordPress blog publish the same articles at the same URLs.
There are solutions to that, and it might be worth hiring a geek somewhere to do the whole WordPress port for you to get this right.
