Who’s Seeking Justice Anyway?

I stumbled on a new blog today after checking out  Houston Criminal Defense Lawyer Mark Bennett’s post, Lanyard Nation.  By the way, the lanyard post is worth reading just to see what the Texas Tornado could piece together on a dare.

This blawg is called Seeking Justice, by Tom McKenna.  It’s apparently been around for a while, but it’s new to me.  What I can’t figure out is who Tom McKenna is or what the philosophy behind this blawg is.  There are conservative and liberal aspects, with a heavy dose of libertarian thrown in as well.

But if you can forgive me, I did think that  this post was (for the most part) very funny and too true.

School 1967 vs. School 2007

Scenario: Jack goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school parking lot with shotgun in gun rack.

1967 – Vice principal comes over, looks at Jack’s shotgun, goes to his car and gets his own shotgun to show Jack.

2007 – School goes into lockdown, the FBI is called, Jack is hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors are called in to assist traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor’s car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1967 – Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.

2007 – Billy’s dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist tells Billy’s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy’s mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fistfight after school.

1967 – Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2007 – Police are called, SWAT team arrives and arrests Johnny and Mark. They are charged with assault and both are expelled even though Johnny started it.

There’s plenty more over there.  Yes, yes, I know that some of the changes are appropriate and not all politically correct “improvements” are inherently silly.  But our loss of perspective on ordinary human conduct versus the beloved trend toward our magic bullet solutions of zero tolerance, 3-strikes, etc., makes these painfully humorous observations meaningful.

So Tom McKenna, how about a link to an “about you” page so us newcomers to your blawg can learn a little bit more.  And for the rest of you, scroll down to the bottom of the page and check out the nuns.  It’s worth the trip.

How about that image at the bottom of the page with the nuns holding guns and something about heaven, muslims and virgins.

FWIW, back when Ken Lammers was still fighting for the little people, Tom McKenna was his nemesis. They would sometimes get into arguments on his blog over cases they’d had. It could be fun…

Yeah, we needed some comic relief after that exchange. I calmed down and talked it over later with my good friend and loyal patriot, Sam Adams.

I know, nuns with guns shows somebody’s taking “onward Christian soldiers” way too literally.

I like the family guy joke a lot better, when the suicide bomber arrives in heaven to find 70 male virgins right out of Revenge of the Nerds who ask him if he wants to join them in playing “World of warcraft.” He screams “Osama!!!”
