Tuesday Talk* Yenta Alert: The Other Date Rape

Female students at Towson University are in fear for their safety, but the Towson cops are on the case.

The Baltimore Sun reports that a woman in her mid-50s has been visiting the campus of Towson University in Maryland pestering female students. The mom reportedly approaches her victims, shows them a photo of her eligible son and asks if they are interested in dating him.

That’s right. Victims. This was flagrantly non-consensual, this predator forcing an image in the unwitting faces of survivors. And who poses this threat to their safety?

“Students have reported being approached by an older female who attempted to show them a picture on her cellphone and ask if they were interested in dating her son. The subject of interest is described as a female, appearing to be in her 50s, with glasses, wearing blue jeans and a striped long-sleeve shirt with red trim along the bottom, a multicolored scarf, brown shoes and carrying a dark-colored coat.”

It is, of course, possible that this picture rapist has changed into a different pair of shoes, or even another scarf of solid color, in order to elude capture. But there’s an image of the miscreant mother, which should be studied closely.

While no information is provided as to whether her son is cute or not, Towson Police Chief Charles Herring is taking no chances.

Herring concludes: “This incident advisory is being provided in order to make the TU Community aware of an incident on campus that may cause concern. This advisory is intended to heighten awareness and inform the community of incidents that may impact their safety and security.”

If you should see her, do not approach as she might have a gif on her phone that could cause permanent trauma. The Towson SWAT team has strapped on its body armor and is ready to pounce.

A police spokesperson tells Yahoo Lifestyle that, for now, the mother is not suspected of committing a crime; they just want her to stop. So might her son.

For now.

      Mom: I want grandchildren!
Son: What can I do? Every time I ask a girl on a date, she screams rape.
Mom: That’s it. I’ve got this. (click)
      Son: Mom.
      Mom: Be back soon, honey.

    SHG,

You, and it seem many others, have such a short memory.
It was 2016 when they first struck.

Creepy, Killer or Evil clowns. DML is an expert on such things. Towson better call him. The figure from the CCC tv might appear as a middle-aged Mom with problems that only Freud could imagine, but appearances are deceiving.

    All the best.

SHG: Only the Yahoo author used the term “victims”, and it ispretty clear she meant it sarcastically. The university police report mentioning safety and security is already enough of an overreaction. No need to exaggerate it.

They needed to send out a security alert for this?

For this I need to spend time reading a blog? Your mother would be ashamed! You should be ashamed, ashamed I tell you to spread such drek!

Giving your precious column-inches to such a nonsense!

She is a good mother, to find her son, a doctor no less, a good wife! (maybe he’s a lawyer, but either way, he’s handsome, and I’m sure he calls his mom regularly!)

Humor me, YK, and pretend to comment about the post at hand. And yes, I did see it from the 27 people who sent it to me by email last week.

This is probably a research project on the part of some sociology student working on her master’s thesis. One can only hope that the university’s masters of research sanction knew about this and approved it, or things could get ugly.

“A police spokesperson tells Yahoo Lifestyle that, for now, the mother is not suspected of committing a crime; they just want her to stop.”

Stop? Why? There’s no crime alleged, no trespassing or stalking or any of that stuff. If I had a dollar for every nut or protestor I encountered at Illinois walking to and from class, I wouldn’t have needed to work part-time. I can’t imagine it’s much different now.

Amy Chua covered that when she declared Chinese moms to literally be the best. You can be a Korean Chinese mother, a Vietnamese Chinese mother, hell you can even be a Yenta Chinese mother. Sometimes you can be a Chinese American woman with children and not be a Chinese mother. It’s like a house of brands.

Yale’s Amy Chau? She’s problematic. Yale’s problematic. She at Yale is double problematic (problematic squared?).

I always wondered how many other cultures did this. With marginal life skills during college, I got a job at a local grocery store in charge of the kosher sections.

Once a week (minimum), some yenta would walk in with pictures of their daughter or granddaughter. These weren’t merely photos – they were in frames, as if before going shopping, they’d grab it off the mantle.

This is how my people operate.

      Bless her heart.

Of all the things I hoped would be discussed here, her appearance isn’t one of them. Frankly, commenting on mom’s appearance isn’t funny to me, and I’m having some serious concerns about it.

These are very sheltered people. This is not a crime. It’s at worst a minor inconvenience.

These people need to walk downtown in St. Louis on a warm afternoon, and see how many times they will get hassled by bums for money.

I would suggest that it’s a crime committed against her son. After this how will he ever get a date? If any of these girls ever see him and recognize him from the picture they will surely burst out laughing at the man who has his mother out trying to get dates for him. At least keep in the group of women at the garden party.

Come on, we all know the moment they find out who the son is someone is gonna file a Title IX complaint against him… They’ll find some twisted logic to put the screws to the guy.

  7. Robert North

Poor son and poor mother. No one every told her she has just about guaranteed her son will not get a date.

      1. wilbur

I wouldn’t want to have been beholden to my mother for that. Blecchh.

And I realized at a young age that the less my middle-aged folks knew about my life the happier we all were.
