Houthis And The Blowhards

It’s hard to keep all these terrorist groups separate, especially now when they’ve become the darlings of the American, even international, left. But what’s a president to do when they fire on commercial vessels in international waters?

The Houthis’ leadership has made its strategic objective clear from the start; its goal was to draw the United States into a fight, ostensibly to show solidarity with Hamas. Having taken over Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, in 2014 and endured a civil war and a bloody Saudi Arabia-led bombing campaign, the Houthis survive — and thrive — on never-ending conflict. Actual governance is not their forte, as their official slogan indicates: “God is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam.”

Naturally, this caused the unduly passionate to immediately attack Joe Biden for taking action against the Houthis. Claiming that their attacks weren’t terrorist opportunism, but rather in support of the Palestinians, was more than enough for the left to know who was good and who was evil. And if they don’t fight against evil, then they are complicit. That, in the universe of simplicity, is all they needed to know.

The protests at the White House later became rather animated.

A wag might ask how the response would have differed if these were Trump supporters trying to storm a government building, but I digest.

It’s not as if there are a half dozen crazies out in the cold marching in cities around the world. The numbers are hardly insignificant. To the extent one would have hoped that October 7th would have exposed the hypocrisy and irrationality of the progressive grasp of the world, it looks to be turning out rather differently. While it’s impossible not to feel empathy toward the Gazans killed and wounded, even if there is much to dispute about the cause of violence, the solution to the violence and the lack of alternatives to the violence, the same cannot be said about the Houthis.

Yet, here we are, the same people calling Israel’s necessary effort to eradicate Hamas and secure safety for its people are now giving full-throated support to the Houthis as fellow-travelers in the “free Palestine” movement.

It’s not that the terrorists have won. It’s that our left now favors the terrorists without reservation. Should Biden have done nothing? Should they be allowed to attack commercial vessels with impunity? Should we succumb to the demands of terrorists whose open goal is to eradicate israel and, lest we forget, the United States? How do these protesters think that ends? The answer, of course, is that they don’t.

In their fanciful imagination, they want Israel and the United States to succumb to the will of the terrorists, who will somehow magically be satisfied with giving up Israel and, after all the Jews are raped and murdered, thereafter live in peace and harmony in a free Palestine with the rest of the world. Because that’s how terrorism works.

These are our children, our academics, our overly-educated and unduly-passionate true believers that the terrorists are the good guys and these Israel, that the United States, both independently and in complicity with Israel, are evil. To the extent anyone thought they would learn something about their adored heroes after October 7th, it’s time to let go of that dream and come to the realization that this is where we are now and these are the people who want to control our future.

Yet again, the words of Lyrissa Lidsky ring in my head.

Nevertheless, I know that in the war of generations, the younger always wins.  I just wonder what victory looks like.

The answer is becoming increasingly clear, and it won’t end with waving Palestinian flags and trying to break through the fence in front of the White House.

We needed to keep tight sanctions on Iran. Iran is funding the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Hamas. Why did we go back to the bargaining table with Iran? Why send them more money? Why pay tribute for the release of six hostages? Our foreign policy is a disaster and keeps getting worse. The problem isn’t the protestors it’s our policymakers.

Stupid idiots. But this does show the folly in destroying the educational system. Yes, it makes them easier to control, but leaves open the possibility they will be controlled by malignant forces to destroy all organized society.

Since you are not posing a legal question I will venture a non-legal observation.

It feels very much like we have passed beyond the “hearts and minds” stage and to the “try to destroy them where they live now or where we live later” calculus. Israel has largely moved to plan A. The US is trying to straddle both options. Time and much death will tell if either works.

A bit off point, but a comment I saw attributed to a Marine in Iraq, “We were in a ‘hearts and minds’ mindset, now it’s ‘two to the heart and one to the mind’ (describing what’s known as the ‘Mozambique drill’).

The way they’re going, they’ll get another chance to protest against Trump starting in 2025. Morons. Like you say, it can always get worse.

This is increasingly likely. Biden and Sanders erroneously think they are going to be able to point to Trump as relatively worse, but the “four legs good, two legs bad” crowd are absolutists. They can’t support Biden under any state of facts, because he has all but killed Palestinian babies with his own hands.

The protestors in front of the White House rioted and tried to tear down the fencing protecting the grounds. Any arrests? Nope. That’s strange.

Very early in the Biden administration, the president removed the terrorist designation placed upon the Houthi regime. Yesterday, President Biden rebuffed placing the terrorist designation again upon the Houthis, deeming it irrelevant. Would it be too much to ask that we get back to designating the terrorists as such? Apparently, it is.

Not arresting protesters seems an especially stupid move, as it feeds into the narrative that LWLT protesters are treated from RWNJ protesters.

There’s some evidence that this is the case, but it shouldn’t be.

The Houthis are not just a gang of terrorists – they are the reigning caste in a country where nearly the half of all children are severly malnourished, where more than a third of the whole population is starving and up to 80% have no sufficient access to drinking or sanitary water.

And what are the Houthis priorities? Feed the hungry? Raise the children? Ensure access to drinking water for everybody? Any kind of justice, of progress, of welfare for the people?

    No, their priorities are:
    1.) Kill Jews
    2.) Kill Americans
    3.) Kill Europeans
    4.) Kill all non-Muslims
    5.) Kill all non-Shiits
    6.) Kill all non-Zaidi

No wonder the progressives love them! The Houthis absolutely share the eternal universal goals of all progressives: Kill!
