Judges, Jesters and “Mirth is King”

From our hinterlands correspondent, Kathleen, comes another missive from Buffalo, where those long, cold winters seem to impair judicial discretion beyond repair.  Have you ever heard of the Royal Order of Jesters? It’s apparently some subset of the Masons (that secret association of leaders of American government and business) and Shriners (grown men in funny hats) dedicated to getting drunk and having sex with prostitutes.  No, I can’t tell you how to join.

But according to the Buffalo News, retired Supreme Court Justice Ronald H. Tills, a judicial hearing officer, found himself an application.  He, together with his law clerk, Michael Stebick and a retired police captain decided to pack up the Winnebago and go to a Jesters’ convention to make merry.

FBI and U.S. Border Patrol agents are investigating allegations that retired Judge Ronald H. Tills, his former law clerk and a retired police captain took the female massage parlor employee in a motor home to a gathering of members of a nationwide group called the Royal Order of Jesters.

At the Jesters event, law enforcement officials said, the woman allegedly was paid to perform sexual favors. Police said the men who took her to the event could face federal criminal charges for transporting her over state lines for the purposes of prostitution.

When is the last time anybody heard of the Mann Act being used?  Now it could be devastating for an old time judge to hit the road and engage in risky business involving young women.  This isn’t the sort of thing that an old ticker can handle without practice and exercise.  I mean, he could kill himself.  But then, he’s a Jester.

The investigation is a spinoff of a case involving prostitution at local massage parlors. Court papers filed by federal prosecutors after a December crackdown on those local massage parlors referred to a “judge” and a “police captain” as being frequent customers of some of the parlors.

Six sources who are familiar with the investigation said Stebick, the owner of the motor home used on the trip, Tills and retired Lockport Police Capt. John Trowbridge went on the road trip, accompanied by the woman from the massage parlor and as many as nine other local men associated with the Jesters.

Now, I was always of the view that these Masons and Shriners (aren’t they the ones with the children’s hospitals?) were dedicated to good causes, religion, stuff like that.  Frankly, I’m beginning to think they need better marketing, because I certainly missed the boat on this club.

“Mirth is king” is the fun-loving group’s motto, according to its Web site. There are about 23,500 members in all, and each must already be a member of the Shrine of North America and the Masons, Rogers said. “Our purpose is to spread the gospel of mirth and merriment,” Rogers said.

That seems pretty clear.

To hear of the investigation from a reporter was “unnerving and shocking,” Rogers said.  “We certainly don’t stand for any of that stuff,” he said.

He was shocked.  Shocked!

However, allegations of prostitution activity at Jesters conventions have surfaced publicly at least once before — during a federal court case in Milwaukee, Wis., in February 1990, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. According to the newspaper’s account, a woman admitted to a federal judge that she ran an interstate prostitution business and was hired to provide prostitutes for Jesters conventions in New Orleans, Houston, Chicago and other locations, including some in other countries.

Now if only I knew the secret handshake.

The Jesters try to take the “highest caliber Shriners we can get” who distinguish themselves in the community, Rogers said.  “We try to keep the cream of the crop,” he said.

Nope.  I’m not even going to touch this one.

For future reference, Shriners have their funny hats, Masons have their funny bibs.  And Jesters, apparently, wear black robes or blue uniforms.  Just so you know who’s who.

this is a bunch of crap why you don’t talk about all the good we do for the community you have a couple guys that did something on there own and all you can talk about is the negative the masons and the shriners and the jesters are all upstanding men and have the highest integrity, why don’t you bark up some drug dealers tree and leave the great men of the masons alone

  2. SHG

Yeah, it really sucks when “great, “upstanding men” get caught with their pants down, doesn’t it?  There’s been a lot of that going around lately.

hey knucklehead do you know that there are
thousands of shriners mason and jesters
just because 2 guys did something wrong are you saying we are all bad i hope not i have spent alot of my years doing what was right and i am sure alot of us feel that way so if you are going to talk crap your thinking like a moron so go ahead and talk your moronic crap

  4. SHG

So few people use the word “knucklehead” anymore.  Were you drunk when you wrote this?  I bet you had a few cold ones, feeling pretty manly, and figured a good “knucklehead” would impress the crap out of me.

And you are absolutely right.  I am impressed, and I thank you for coming here and showing everbody, especially a knucklehead like me, what type of man becomes a Jester.

As the wife of a jester I know that prostitutes and jesters go hand in hand. At this past years xmas party prostitutes were present. know, my husband came home falling down drunk with cum on his tux and after much prompting and a very angry wife I got a few details. But of course after a bit of sobering up the protection of his brothers came to light in full force. It is absolutley true that they are required to be true to their brothers always even when they are at there worst and guilty as charged….pretty much stated as such in material I’ve read confiscated as only a wife knows how.

I’m sorry to hear.  I’ve gotten a few calls on the subject and this is getting weirder and weirder

  7. Kathleen

Cherly, I am very sorry for you in your dismay and heartbreak at the cruelty from her husband and his Jester “brothers.”

This is imploding. The thing for the Shiners and Masons to do, in my opinion, is a preemptive strike against the “International Order of the Jesters.” They after all conceived it, and this is their child figuratively speaking. I have the hope that they, showing themselves as gentlemen, men of character, revoke its charter summarily. And distribute its assets to charities in each community in which it has functioned.

do you think he was trying to impress you? Who gives a shit if you are impressed? We have already established that you are a moron. You probably think all pit bulls are killers, don’t you? Or that guns kill? Right? Get your head out of your ass. You wish you knew what kind of man becomes a Jester.

YOU ARE AS LOW LIFE AS THEY COME YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT ANYTHING OR ANYONE YOUR THE KIND OF PERSON THAT HAS NO FRIENDS BECAUSE NOBODY WANTS TO BE AROUND SOMEONE LIKE YOU,

I some readers think I should delete your comments because they are so facially offensive, but frankly I and so many other readers find you so incredibly amusing that it would be cruel to deny them your comments.

Whining women makes me laugh. Who really cares if a guy goes to a strip club or prostitute? Women who don’t know that ALL MEN do, are simply idiots.
Men are men. The ones that don’t do men stuff are wussies.

  12. xstripper

was WHAT worth it? You’re another whining woman who has an AGENDA…makes me puke. Men are what they are, you can’t change them, mold them or make them sissies, althought many women try.
I prefer men who are real, and that means learning to live with all their shortcomings.

  13. xstripper

one more thing you whining women…
“men of character” has nothing to do with whether they are hiring strippers or prostitutes or not.
    That’s dumb.

  14. SHG

To the extent that I may have wondered if your basic stripper hung out with a particular sort of man, I guess you’ve satisfied my curiosity.

  15. xstripper

Equally dumb is anyone who crucifies men like the Jesters because they party with strippers and/or prostitutes.
The Shriners Hospitals and all the good things they do should be the only concern of common sense people; however, I can see that most people have no common sense, and it’s USUALLY women. Their only concern is whether their man is looking at someone else’s flesh. Waste of time. All men are the same, and if you think otherwise, you are beyond stupid.
“Men of character” (in my book) are men who take care of their families, their community and their country. Nothing else really matters. The moral judging is just something that “prunes” like to elaborate on, and they are the ones that drive their men out of the house…FACT. How do I know? Listened to many of them.

  16. SHG

So how often do you party with these good men, the Jesters?  Is it just to strip for them, or are you a pros as well?  Do they take you to their conventions, or do you do them at their meetings, or maybe individually?

  17. Kathleen Casey

Stripping. Was it worthwhile? Not something I would do? True. So what? It is your body to use as you please.

  18. xstripper

you need to get a life, or are you just that bored that you get off to asking provocative questions so you can have something “exciting” to think about all day long? What a joke.
    see ya

  19. anon

Hey Xstripper…rather have morals and push him outta the house! While your busy at the book (your book)listening to him/them; wine about the prunes at home (that take care of everything so they can be the man they turned into)ohhh did I mention while you gladly take our kids spending money??? No wonder you appreciate what our men do for the country/community. They pay your bills. Amazing to want to be righteous in your own mind for your own selfishness.

I got suspicious and emailed a woman about a weekend with the jesters at a home, out in the woods, away from the public and she was put up in a motorhome for the weekend. This was supposed to be a “stag” event with no women…ok without wives. It does happen!

  21. Andi

Don’t bother gals. Xstripper is a GUY! Now that you know where he’s coming from, just let him rant. On other forums, this type of creature is known as a troll. Don’t feed them. Let them starve!

It might be helpful for their image if the Royal Order of Jesters didn’t have the creepiest logo ever displayed on their rather sinister-looking and highly uninformative website.
