Given Joe Biden’s dotage, his choice for vice president is kind of a big deal. There is not an insignificant possibility that whomever he chooses will end up in the oval after a lovely funeral. And it’s a somewhat different concern than Mike Pence, as it would be impossible to install someone more vulgar, amoral and ignorant than Trump, so the bar was far lower.
But then, Joe Biden did something telling and tellingly foolish. He announced that his VP would be a woman. Obviously, this was done to pander to the woke of his party, since he could fulfill his promise by selecting Candace Owens. That’s about as far as identity takes you.
Of course, the New York Times has done the legwork for Biden by putting together a list of potential veep candidates.
- Kamala Harris
- Stacey Abrams
- Elizabeth Warren
- Amy Klobuchar
- Gretchen Whitmer
- Catherine Cortez Masto
- Keisha Lance Bottoms
If George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Jack Kennedy were available, they wouldn’t make the cut. Harriet Tubman would, but not Frederick Douglass. But enough about the silliness of selecting a vice president based upon skin color or genitalia rather than the content of her character.
Given that Biden’s choice could well be a weak, old heartbeat away from the presidency, who would be the best choice, the worst choice, a deal breaker or a deal maker. Show your work.

I have no idea as to who, but she should enjoy a bit of hair fondling.
I’m shocked AOC isn’t on the list.
She’s too young to satisfy the constitutional requirements.
Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. But since when has the Constitution been anything other than an impediment to the revolution for the NYT?
I looked at this list and totally intend to read about each and every one of these candidate candidates, but oh gee would you look at the time?! The Hee Haw marathon is starting, showing every single boring, tedious episode of its 22 year run back-to-back, and that takes priority
Minnie Pearl didn’t make the list either.
Neither did Hillary.
A curious omission.
No way he puts Hillary a heartbeat away from the presidency when it’s his own heartbeat.
Kamala doesn’t know how to use a shiv?
She’s so proud not to be on it.
Whitmer’s handling of the pandemic shows she’s willing to take action and stick by it. If her aggressive measures in Michigan end with Michigan having a markedly better outcome than other states, she’s a bold visionary who’s unafraid to take unpopular action and becomes a great choice. If Michigan ends up worse, or even no better, than states who were much less locked down then she’s a power-grabbing dictator wannabe who’s so scared of a virus she torpedoed the economy and is a terrible choice.
Leaning toward the “great choice,” she has a mindless T-shirt slogan ready-made in “That woman from Michigan.” Nobody cares about her for anything but that and the lockdown, but that’s probably enough to make or break her as a VP candidate.
Given that Michigan is currently 6th out of 50 states for the most COVID-19 deaths per capita, I think “markedly better outcomes than other states” is pretty much off the table.
That’s a fair point. Let me clarify- if Michigan’s outcome can be PERCEIVED as being markedly better after accounting for whatever failures can be blamed on the Federal government, and adjusting for how it would have gone without those nasty Trumpkin protests, and grading on the nebulous curve of “how bad it actually was compared to how bad it would have been without Whitmer’s orders.”
In all seriosity, I think the smart choice would be Congresswoman Katie Porter, despite her slight resemblance to Ethel Rosenberg.
Her pics could go toe to toe with Melania’s.
You might be confusing Katie Porter with Katie Hill.
Oh crap. You’re right.
Ick. Ick to all of them.
A Harris pick is a free pass for Trump to run Willie Horton style ads about Celeste Guap all day in addition to Harris’s other problems as California AG.
Abrams hasn’t recovered from her loss in Georgia and has been questioning the legitimacy of that election since, so Trump will beat the campaign over the head with that problem if she’s elected.
Warren might work, but I don’t know if she’d be willing to be Joe’s second banana.
Klobuchar is bad not just for her record as a prosecutor. When comedy writers get seven series of an HBO comedy show (“Veep”) over your allegedly terrible behavior, that’s a problem.
Whitmer’s proven herself too authoritarian to appeal to people who enjoy civil liberties.
The other two I scratch my head at because I’ve never heard of them.
Why not Tulsi?
That’s right, Tulsi didn’t make the cut either. I wonder why?
Probably cause she has a soul.
And here I thought it was because she was the only sane person running for president from either party,
It’s spelled Masto and I am begging Biden to pick her as long as part of the deal is she has to give up her Senate seat, win or lose.
