Everyone should remember our favorite senatorial toe-tapper, Idaho Senator Larry Craig.  Courtesy of Skelly, it appears that the good Senator had criminal defense lawyer Billy Martin on retainer before the Minnesota public bathroom courtship dance. 

According to SpokesmanReview.com,

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig paid top criminal defense attorney Billy Martin and PR consultant Judy Smith $37,350 in early July, and has had them representing him since last February

So on June 11 (the date of the wide stance) and August 8 (the date of the inadvertent guilty plea), Craig had both lawyer and PR consultant (makes you think of bookends, doesn’t it?) on call.

Larry Craig is now my new hero.  Every Senator should be paying close attention to what happened here and learn something.  Have a criminal defense lawyer on retainer at all time.  It’s the new American way!
