President Trump was interviewed by Kristen Welker for Meet The Press. It did not go well. But for whom?
For some, this was one of the most revealing interviews, reflecting Trump’s detachment from reality, abusiveness toward the media in general and a woman interviewer in particular, and inability to deal with any challenge to his delusional beliefs. Was it possible that anyone could watch this interview and reach any conclusion other than Trump being manifestly unfit for office? Of course it was possible.
NBC Anchor BEGS FOR MERCY After Trump BRUTALLY DEMOLISHES HER To Her Face THEN WALKS OFF Interview!
Rather than this being about Trump, in the eyes of MAGA, this was about Welker.
You can see the crazy in her eyes.
Forget about what Trump said and just look at her eyes, where you can see the stages of TDS.
Was it disrespectful of Welker to challenge Trump’s baseless assertions? The MAGA faithful see it that way, both because they believe that what Trump was saying was the gospel and because they find it abhorrent that the radical left lunatics in the crooked and/or stupid fake press do not treat Trump with the obsequiousness they have come to expect.
From the MAGA perspective, Trump not only showed Welker who’s boss, but “brutally demolished” her in the process.
It’s so great having a president who says what we are thinking to the intellectually dishonest talking heads
“You’re either crooked or you’re stupid.” O M G what a great response.
The media is the enemy of the people! You can’t hate them enough.
Prez drops the mic and then steps on it… BOSS!
trump’s best interview
Where, amid these reactions to the interview, can common ground be found? To the extent the MAGA faithful blame wrongs by Trump on the “fake” news, this interview reflects Trump. Trump said what he said. It wasn’t someone “explaining” what Trump said, to then be spun as some nefarious propaganda promoted by the legacy media’s hatred of Trump, but words straight from his mouth. And yet, it still doesn’t matter
There is no overlap in the Venn diagram of the MAGA faithful and the rest of America. That’s not to say there aren’t Trump supporters who aren’t members of the cult, and recognize that he is a vulgar, lying, narcissistic ignoramus, but hold their nose and support him because they find the woke left even more dangerous or insufferable. But at what point and in what way can Americans return to a shared reality, and thereby work toward a shared future, when there is a significant (say 30% perhaps) group of Americans who happily live in Trump’s fantasy world?
I would have expected Trump’s conduct in this interview to have had an impact on those who drank the Kool-Aid, watching their beloved president sink into a hole of infantile invective, lies and delusions. But I would have been wrong. If this didn’t do it, will anything? Epstein? Iran? The economy? Anything?

Bob Marley.
“We were born to be real, not to be perfect.”
There’s a lot I don’t like about Trump but from my perspective he’s better than what the Democrats ran.
I just wish both parties put up better people.
What are some laudable aspects of this presidency? Are there any “wins” that have not come with outrageous prices tags, and/or usurped powers (always a danger to liberty)?
Last week, Trump, while discussing his woefully unqualified appointee for DNI, suggested that Pulte would be looking into “rigged elections”. Setting aside, for the moment, that there’ve been dozens of court cases, numerous recounts and audits, and that both Trump’s own AG and the consultant hired to look into such claims ALL concluded there’d been no rigged voting/ nor stolen votes sufficient to effect election outcomes, Trump continues to insist “the election was rigged”.
Somehow, it never seems to dawn on him that if “they” could rig elections, “they” would have rigged Congressional elections, too.
In the current moment, Trump suggesting that the DNI would be “looking into rigged elections” (I think that’s an exact quote) and then having a tantrum when challenged by a reporter about his unsupported claims is alarming as the inference is that he intends to claim interference in the mid-terms, but recognizes that this is dishonest/ fraudulent and fears being called out for these despicable actions.
La Welker, and others in the media need to continue to challenge him on this. They should also insist on the release of the rest of the Trump/ Epstein files and ask, “For the Epsteinth time when will there be arrests?”.
The courts recently ruled against some of Trump’s excesses. The press needs to follow their example and call out his incessant lying.
Also, I wasn’t aware domestic elections were under the purview of the DNI…
What I can’t understand is how anyone can ignore Trump’s now claiming he never said he wouldn’t start any wars when he said that over and over when running. But even more disconcerting is that he now claims it can’t be true because why else would he build the strongest “warfighting” military? Is he saying that he plans to invade more countries (Greenland? Canada? Cuba?) and start more wars? How do the magats hear this and not realize that he’s lying through his teeth?
I’ll try to explain the MAGA mindset because I have MAGA family members.
MAGA is aware of Trump’s shortcomings. Is he vulgar? Yes. Is he a liar? Yes. Is he corrupt? Yes.
Trump’s sales pitch is THE DEMOCRATS ARE OUT TO GET YOU. They hate you. They say all Republicans are racists, sexist, transphobes, and just Nazis in general. (It does not help that stupid online Democrats say this.)
When I talk to my family members, they agree with every one of Trump’s failings I list, but don’t focus on his failings because THE DEMOCRATS ARE OUT TO GET YOU.
MAGA’s positions are logical once you buy their assumptions. Please note the condition in that sentence.
They _are_ out to get you. Oregon has a petition out to ban farming.
“Initiative Petition 28 (the PEACE Act) has gathered enough signatures to potentially qualify for the November ballot, seeking to remove legal exemptions that currently protect hunting, fishing, trapping, and livestock farming from state animal cruelty laws.
If enacted, the measure would explicitly criminalize all forms of licensed sport and commercial fishing, legal trapping, and raising animals for food, dairy, eggs, and fiber.”
Maybe someone living in Oregon can weigh in.
It’s a fringe of a fringe of people who “tricked” people into signing a petition (saying it will stop cruelty to animals). Even if it does get on the ballot, it’s not going anywhere.
Claiming this is something most democrats would support is
like saying all MAGA people agree with the tactics of far-far right groups.
Apologies, I know this is Monday, not Tuesday, but….
Stranger things have happened. Trump got reelected. No one in the 50’s would have bet on gay marriage or pot becoming legal.
The Jews thought they wouldn’t be rounded up until it happened.
The canary in the coal mine is warning both sides. You and I won’t see it but our great grandchildren will be living with it, one way or the other.
And the people that got tricked into signing the petition, well, they vote and can get tricked again.
I can’t see any normal meat eater voting for this. Even some vegans and vegetarians would feel bad voting for this. But yes, I suppose your possibility exists.
The Pro Initiative 28 website has all sorts of imaginative supporting rationalizations. I really liked the catch and release for rodent pests. Release where? Should there be mandatory sterilization or is okay to allow rodent populations to grow unchecked?
I’m an “A pox on both your parties” guy. Biden was clearly suffering cognitive decline, Hillary lies almost as reflexively as Trump, AOC and the squad promote woke nonsense, but Trump claiming that “The Democrats are out to get you” is specious nonsense.
As I was reading Grant’s post, I couldn’t help think about Hitler blaming the Jews for all Weimar excesses and Germany’s economic woes in the 1930s. I know comparing Trump to Hitler is facile (and as nearly all analogies are flawed), but in his feeding people’s fears, blaming a bogeymen, inciting division there are clear parallels.
MAGATS are not Nazis, but in ascribing/ adhering to Trump’s pernicious narrative they are simply wrong. A Democracy (yeah, I know we’re technically a Republic) depends upon recognizing the notion of there being a loyal opposition and accepting that views in opposition to one’s own are not treasonous, but entirely legitimate. That there are those on the Left who hold equally insidious views (e.g., the PBS editor who said the children of Trump supporters should be sent to reeducation camps), does not in any way justify Trump and (some of) his supporters hateful rhetoric and behavior. They’re wrong, too.
Unfortunately, as both Twain and Sagan have pointed out (paraphrasing), it’s a lot easier to sell someone a load of bullshit than to get them admit they bought it.
