What’s Worse Than A Violent Sociopathic Criminal?

A violent sociopathic criminal who’s getting paid with your tax dollars and protected by the FBI.  It’s like a little army of sick, weasels who can do whatever they please, provided they do one little thing:  Rat out somebody to the Feds every once in a while.  That’s the get out of jail free card.  They free meal ticket.  It’s almost like they’re American heroes.  At least to the FBI agents who love, care and feed them.

Grits for Breakfast has long been recapping the world of snitching for us, and brings us this post from Stop The Drug War.  Don’t let the name fool you.  It’s not some crazy, lefty organization dedicated to rebirth of drug-induced hippidom.  The post is about Congress questioning the FBI for assurances that they weren’t supporting our little army of rats, wreaking violence amongst the population and protected by their unfailing willingness to say whatever pleased their FBI handlers.  An FBI Assistant Director refused to do so.

There is something very wrong when the institutions that pretend to stand for honesty, integrity, law and order are at the forefront of crime.  There is something very wrong when we turn a blind eye to the very real fact that this is how the feds operate because we are willing to let them take a pass on truthfulness.  Who out there is willing to let trials become lying shams if someone in a building in Washington wants to “get” somebody?  Raise you hands.

For those who can rationalize this bizarre flip of right and wrong in the name of safety, consider this:  Once we knowingly remove the expectation of truth from the criminal justice process, there is absolutely nothing left to stop the powerful people from using this to subjugate all of us.  It starts with the alleged criminals.  It goes on to the purported “terrorists”.  Then the unsavory elements, and political enemies.  Does any of this sound even remotely familiar?

You say this can never happen.  It’s one thing to lie about criminals, after all they deserve it.  But political enemies?  Hah.  Well, think about it this way.  You won’t know realize it when it happens.  It will come under the guise of some societally palatable excuse.  They will tell you that they’re on the take.  That they’re doing some nefarious deed.  It will be a headline in the papers about how somebody is a bad guy.  And you won’t know if it’s true or just another sham.  You will believe it’s true because you don’t want to believe that they are just plain lying about everybody.

But when it becomes so easy, so acceptable, for witnesses to just perjure their way to conviction, there’s no way to stop it or distinguish real from “acceptable” fiction.

As I write, there are American kids dying for the “American Way”.  Is this what we want them to die for?  We’ve been going out of control for almost two decades, with the American public willing to hide its head in the sand so that they can wave the flag without having to feel bad about it.  How much longer, and how much deeper?
