He Said, She Said, Jon Stewart Version (Update)

Interesting how words come back to bite you in the butt, especially when there’s videotape.

H/T Matt Bodie at PrawfsBlawg, who’s getting a little tired of all this arguing.

Update:  Dan Solove at Co-Op not only appreciates this video, but is mad as hell and ain’t gonna take it anymore:

It seems as though all these pundits and spin doctors are just playing a game, saying things not because they’re true, not because they believe them, not even because they’re plausible — they just make arguments because they support their side. But this is all just noise. Why must we be constantly be bombarded with this inane and phony banter?

Dan offers a modest proposal:

So here’s my plea for the media — stop giving these pundits all the airtime. Yank them off the air. Don’t print their drivel in the papers. Let’s just assume that the pundits for each side are just going to spout off whatever they find expedient. Do we really need to hear more of it?

In the comments to Dan’s post, others urge him to just shut off the telly.  I think they missed Dan’s point. Big time.   The networks, who are allowed use of the public airwaves for the good of the People, need to stop promoting a dis-information machine that undermines what little integrity may still exist in American politics.

Dan’s right.  People (not just Dan, which is why his turning off the TV doesn’t help) cannot maintain a democracy without accurate information.  When all we’re fed is spin and talking points, 24/7 on 359 cable channels plus network, there is a serious problem.

It’s a sad state of affairs in this country when Comedy Central is the best source for news.

Scott, did you ever see the clip of Jon Stewart when he was on Crossfire during the 2004 campaign? If not, you’ll probably like it.

[Ed.:  Here it is, with gratitude to BCT]

Yeah, it is not just Fox either. I was sickened when I watched the Matthews-Buchannan argument and thought to myself, “Chris, shut the fuck up. Pat Buchanan’s right and you’re twisting his words to argue a non-contested point!”
