In keeping with our school appreciation theme, we offer the teaching stylings of Port St. Lucie, Florida kindergarten teacher of Wendy Portillo. In her class was 5 year old Alex Barton, who has Asperger’s Syndrome.
Gosh darn those learning disabled kids are such a pain, right Wendy? But being a real pro, Wendy knows just how to handle those annoying little pests:
After returning to Ms. Portillo’s classroom after a recent visit with the principal, his teacher decided to punish him with humiliation. She had Alex stand at the front of the class while his fellow students listed off what they didn’t like about him. After informing him that they found him “disgusting” and “annoying”, the class was instructed to vote on whether or not Alex should be allowed to stay in the class. By a 14 to 2 margin, they voted him out.
But lest you say to yourself as you read this, “finally, a teacher that I want for my kid,” you’re out of luck. According to USA Today, she’s been “reassigned”. Perhaps there are learning disabled students in high school, they fear they could make it to graduation without having been adequately abused?
One aside: If this child has Asperger’s, what is he doing in the principal’s office because of his behavioral issues? If he cannot be taught in a typical classroom because of problems engendered by his syndrome, and accommodations cannot be adequately made, then he must be provided with more a suitable situation. You don’t punish a kid because he has autism.

As an highfunctioning Autisitc man who missed Rain Man’s Curse (modern autism ) I applaud Wendy. Before Autism went designer Autism was “solved” there is an entire anthropology of us that can’t be admitted to today, we do too much of a real life. Many of us hold ajob, drive and have families.
We have discovered Autism BOTH MR/DD and Einstein and we also connected the two. We have figured out the DI Vinci Code to life and it has never been in a text book before. Simply put Autism is the slow motion step by step thought process all humans do to think. If autism research were sincere and honest they would be scrambling to hear our story and enlighten mankind but they are jumping threw hoops to hide us- espcially before the next NASCAR Race the Autism Speaks 400. Seems Autism Speaks (.ORG) but it doesn’t listen.
